How to book SGR tickets without M-Pesa

Your options as an international traveller, from requesting seats to confirming payment.

Start with the official booking option

Madaraka Express is operated by Kenya Railways. You can check journeys and the available booking options through its official ticketing website. Safari Rail is an independent assistance service for travellers who want help with the process.

If you do not have M-Pesa or a Kenyan bank account, talk to us before sending money. We can explain the payment options we support and confirm whether we can help with your journey.

Request your seats before paying

Choose a travel date, preferred departure and class, then enter the passenger details requested by the booking form. Names and identification should match the documents you will use for travel.

A request is not a confirmed reservation. We check availability and send the total cost, including our separate service fee, before asking you to pay. If you need the return journey or a different route, confirm it with us on WhatsApp.

Confirm the payment method with us

Safari Rail supports payment arrangements using Wise, Remitly, Sendwave and Western Union. Availability, exchange rates and transfer charges depend on the provider and your country. Ask us for the current payment instructions before making a transfer.

Allow for transfer processing time. Your ticket is confirmed only after payment is received and the booking is completed; sending a transfer does not by itself secure a seat.

Keep your booking details for travel

We send your booking information through the agreed contact channel. Keep the booking message and ticket number available, and follow the ticket-printing instructions we send before departure.

Where timing and station access allow, we may help with pre-printing tickets. Confirm this arrangement with us instead of assuming it is included for every departure.
